Description

BILT In Tank Rechargeable Water Softener / Particle Filter

This is a small insurance price to pay! Softens your water so that less limescale is built up inside your espresso machine – this is very important for semi-commercial machines with heat exchangers as well as many other electric pump-driven espresso machines.

Specifications:

  • Resins are rechargeable for up to 6 months – recommended to recharge at least weekly with salt , whichever is sooner. Recharge and rinse before 1st use!
  • Replace the unit every 6 months to avoid mold, fungal, and/or bacteria buildup. Replace sooner if the unit does not allow water to flow through after a recharge and after confirming the electrical pump does intake water through the hose without the softener
  • Can be used in most pump model espresso machines that have a water intake tube in the espresso machine’s reservoir.
  • This can not be used in espresso machines with direct water/plumbed in connections or where there is a bottom feed of water from the reservoir (meaning water exits through the bottom).
  • Measurements (approximate and subject to slightly change without notice): H 4 1/8″ x W 1 3/4″
  • Canister Height: Approximately 2 inches and extension about 1 inch.

Notes:

  • For Rancilio Silvias, the connection is loose. You can use a tie wrap to secure it to the hose.
  • The resins expand after getting wet.
  • Warning: Upon receipt and use, please make sure that the canister does not leak resins. Sometimes the screen breaks or moves during shipping (even after being well packed), and resins will fall out).
  • Please note, due to health reasons, that water softeners are not returnable under our return policy.
  • The water softener must be inspected for damage and regenerated with salt prior to use.
  • Replaces NE454 NE.454
  • Replaces 7374012 Bezzera Water Softener – BZ02 & BZ07

    does a googm job

By all means by this filter. Once it starts floating in your water tank, your pump will sound terrible and your machine will fail. At least you’ll have no likesxale.

    • Cathy

If the filter was floating why did you not fix it? It states that is should not float. Maybe this was caused by your own fault? Don’t understand why you blame the filter?

I’m an amateure with limited experience, though
I’ve had my machine for 9 years with no (apparent) evidence of Lime disease(?) I have not descaled, so much has to do with the quality/make up of the water (and your pipes). I suspect those numbers are available.
Downside to this device is that it may put extra strain on the motor, so if you remove it, I would put a little filter (I just removed the gel from the acaso and use that) at the end of the hose.

I use this in my Vibiemme DB to prevent limescale buildup. You recharge the filter with Salt monthly and replace the filter annually. 1st-Line offers excellent support for this product and/or any of the products on their web site.

  5. Daniel C

I tested the performance of the in-tank softener. The water in the expresso machine had a hardness of less than 1 grain. when properly regenerated this softener cartridge works well and will protect my machine from scaling

  6. Hiroyuki K

I use this for 3 months with Lelit Victoria 91T. Every time when finished, I carefully check water line, tank and groundhead for residues. I don’t find any issues. Keep my machine clean. I recommend.

  7. Michael T

I have soft water where I live and thought I wouldn’t need this but found out I did. Even with soft water i was having lime scale build up. Seems to do the job.

  8. Ram M

These water softeners work as described. I use them in my Ala Di Vittoria Valentina heat-exchanger machine and they seem to be doing the job nicely.

  9. Todd W

Using one of these for my heat exchange machine. Easy to install and has reduced the hardness of my water. Makes sense to put one in the tank

  10. Nicholas K

One very important item for any machine. Easy to install and maintain. Just follow the directions and it will protect your investment.

  11. James R C

Use this in both Vibiemme Double Domobar and Miss Silvia. Easy to install and recharge. Follow the instructions. Makes good water.

I tested our filtered water from our fridge at 110ppm calcium hardness, considered moderately hard water. I then tested the water coming from our espresso machine after installing the filters (we needed 2, one for the coffee intake and 1 for the steamer) and assured enough water had passed through it to make sure filtered water was coming out. After installing the filters the water tested at less than 10ppm calcium hardness, the lowest my Taylor drop test is capable of indicating, so it’s possible it could actually be lower. I don’t have a test for magnesium, but I would be willing to believe it would be similar to the calcium filtered. I will test again at the 2 week recharge recommendation and see where the numbers are after some use. Overall I’m happy with the calcium reduction from such an inexpensive solution.

Although this filter is next to near impossible to find on this website, (why is that exactly, I don’t know,) but now that you’ve found it, buy a few. I purchased a few of them just in case the prices of water softeners go through the roof. Remember, plan ahead! The picture I uploaded is of my highly modified Lelit Mara X V2, in July of 2023. Everyone at 1st Line is amazing, and they only carry products that are the highest in quality. I have shopped ALLLL around – and I’m hooked to this website!
