Lelit Mara X PL62X Heat Exchange Espresso Machine
The Mara X is the Lelit’s next leading breakthrough innovation. Two years in researching, developing, and perfecting the L58E espresso machine now comes to fruition! Lelit’s Mara X espresso machine, with its esteemed L58E grouphead, sports an aesthetic stainless steel body hiding an internal, optimized heat exchange system. Now, you can be an amazing home barista, thanks to how compact the Mara X espresso machine is with its semi-commercial qualities and temperature management system.
Working with a vibration pump manufacturer, Lelit has intensely researched to decrease the noise of Mara’s vibration pump when compared to competitive L58E machines with vibration pumps. The Lelit Mara X espresso machine integrates temperature stability that improves high-quality espresso extractions.
With the help of some of these features, one can enjoy the art and culture of producing excellent espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes in no time! A good grinder is needed, of course, so check out the Lelit PL044MM Fred if you are in the market for one!
New Version 2 Updates as of June 2022:
Mara X has two functioning modes that aim to improve the thermal performance of the product:
- X Mode – SteamIn this mode, the machine works like a dual boiler. The software focuses on both the boiler and the heat exchanger, guaranteeing steam availability after the brewing process. In this scenario, the temperature profile of the brewing process is less stable and precise over the use of the product. Overall, the machine has higher steam performance. The HX Boiler works more intensively to balance the thermal fluctuation inside the boiler during the brewing process. The heating element is highly active:A. During coffee brewing to maintain stable the thermal brewing profile B. After coffee brewing to generate enough steam
B. After coffee brewing to generate enough steam - X Mode – CoffeeIn this mode, the machine works as if it was a single boiler with PID control. The software turns off the steam boiler during coffee brewing, on the one hand, reducing the risk of overheating (typical problem of HX machines) and on the other hand, increasing the thermal stability. To recognise the setting the user is in, they just need to turn off and back on the machine; if the led of the power button blinks, it means that the Xmode coffee is active.Best scenario of use: specialty coffee (light – roasted coffee beans)
New Updated Redirected OPV Drain System shipping as of 1/26/2022 (units were produced in 2021):
- The hose from the OPV has been redirected from the drip tray and incorporated into the hoses for the water tank and pump. This will reduce the amount of water released into the drip tray when the OPV opens.

Heat exchange system:
- Pull a shot & steam milk at the same time: Steam is always readily available. Hence, there is no wait time going from coffee to steam mode like dual-purpose single boilers. This works well if entertaining a small group of people.
- Manual reset-able safety thermostat: Located on top of the boiler to prevent overheating. Usually, when a machine overheats, it means you have limescale. The safety thermostat stops the overheating so the boiler and machine do not blow up.
- Stainless steel, insulated boiler: The boiler is made of AISI 316L stainless steel design helps maintain temperature stability, but please note any stainless steel boiler can still develop limescale. Therefore, we highly recommend using a water softener. The manufacturer wraps the boiler with insulation for maximum heat retention and energy savings.
- Thermo-siphon double-cycle heat exchanger system: Keeps the brew group and the boiler always hot, at the right temperature range for making espresso.
- Power-saving system: Decreases the pressure in the steam boiler when the PL62X is not in active use.

PID Controller:
- Preset Temperature programming: Allows you to select from 3 different boiler temperature ranges for different coffee blends.
- Pre-set Temperatures Modes: With each mode comes three pre-set temperatures, which are warm, hot, and extra hot.
- Steam and coffee temperature detection: Performed two times per second and modifies the settings, depending on if the unit is given priority to either coffee mode or steam mode.
- Double probe system: Sustains the brew temperature in order to consistently make the best shots of espresso.

L58E grouphead:
- Constantly heated: Hot water circulates from the heat exchanger through the grouphead and back. This is known as the thermosyphon loop.
- Unique and accurate temperature: Unlike most traditional L58E espresso machines, the Lelit Mara X will allow you to extract espresso temperature is within 2 degrees C. Additionally, you can produce espresso any time without flushing to keep the grouphead’s temperature down.
- Pre-infusion: Lever next to the grouphead activates a microswitch which turns on the pump to pump water through the coffee grinds. Pulling the lever halfway up will open the valve to allow water into the grouphead without activating the pump. Please note that true pre-infusion requires the direct water connection whereby the water pressure from the waterline creates true pre-infusion. In a reservoir machine, the preinfusion is driven by the build-up internal pressure in the heat exchanger. The newly-designed quieter pump enables getting a longer pre-infusion once the lever is brought all the way up to the horizontal position.
- Short wait time: The Lelit Mara PL62X is NOW one of the only espresso machines with an L58E grouphead that has a short waiting time in between brewing espresso. Get ready for those back to back shots when entertaining your guests!

Tank / reservoir system:
- Auto-shutoff: Prevents the heating element from damaging when there is no or low water in the reservoir. There is a two-stage shutoff. There is a magnetic float in the water tank that detects when the water is low. The other is the spring-activated plate underneath the water tank that detects when the tank is removed.
- Particle filter: Protects the machine from any unseen particles from entering the boiler. You can remove this filter if you are installing an inline water softener. This machine can NOT be plumbed in. Always refill the tank/reservoir outside of the machine.

Dual pressure gauge:
- Steam (boiler) pressure gauge: Top half of the boiler, which has steam, is measured. Measurement is from 0 to 4 bar. Optimal pressure is between 0.8 and 1.2.
- Brew pressure gauge: This gauge measures the pump pressure required to get the water through the ground espresso coffee in the filter basket. If too coarse, the gauge will be below 8 bar. If too fine, the gauge will be over 10 bar. The same applies to the amount of coffee in the basket as well as the tamping pressure. Measures from 0 to 16 bar. Optimal pressure is between 8 and 10.

I’ve been having the Mara X for about 1 month now and it is great. I have no complaints about it.
EFRAIN FLORES-COLON (verified owner) –
I pre ordered the Lelit Mara X in April based on reviews from Europe, have been using it for a month now and it has lived to my expectations and more. This is an extremely high-quality Italian-made machine, with the famous E61 group head, and produces a heavenly espresso. I added the wood knobs and portafilter to soften the industrial look. I also installed the Lelit Flow Control Kit and works pretty awesome, similar to the Lelit Bianca. Finally, the people at 1st-Line are extremely helpful updating me with shipment status, via email and FaceBook messenger. (thank you Diane and Jim), through the purchase process.

I am really enjoying my Mara X. Easy to use. Great shots. Powerful Steaming

Full disclosure, I am not a gadget coffee drinker. I don’t weigh my coffee, and there are million acronyms on the boards that I don’t know what they mean. What I wanted was a small durable machine that acted like a bigger machine, and that is what I got. My espresso beans haven’t arrived, so I am using Mexican medium roast beans, I got rid of my steam pitcher with my last machine, so am using a mug, all that is to say, DELICIOUS! I may never visit another coffee shop again. Coffee shops seem to want to give me a latte when I order a cappuccino. This machine makes perfect foam (better than the bigger handmade machine I bought). I’ve been looking for this machine for at least five years, I’m glad Lelit finally invented it. It’s a machine that even a novice can use.

So I had pre-ordered the Mara X in mid-July, knowing that there was a limit to the number of units that would be available when the next shipment came in. I did a fair amount of research over the last 6 months, and knew that my Rancilio Miss Sylvia (13 years old and purchased from 1st Line) was on borrowed time, but still working ok. This machine caught my attention as it had been engineered from the ground up and I really did not need a double boiler, as I rarely use the steam wand for frothing milk. So this really was ideal for me with the heat exchange single boiler feature, as well as the more advanced sensors that did a lot of work behind the scenes. The unit is really solid and built well, and it weighs in at over 40 pounds. The water reservoir is larger than my Rancilio which is good, and I am now starting off using the recommended water softener to eliminate any descaling which can harm internal components.
I am using my 13 year old Rancilio grinder and had to adjust the setting so that I am getting a finer grind for the Mara X. The red handle Lelit tamper is nice, but I still prefer the Bumper 58mm tamper that I had been using. The other accessories are good like the larger capacity metal coffee filter that I use all the time; I like long shots. The blind filter will be ideal for backflushing. They also include a water softener cartridge as well as some cleaner in packets for backflushing.
Jim and Diane were very helpful both before and after my purchase for questions. I have been using the Mara X for about 2 weeks now, and am very happy with it and definitely getting better crema than the Rancilio. This unit also comes with a 3-year warranty for parts and labor that is a plus. I am keeping the unit in coffee mode, and did change the temperature from the original warm setting (0) to the hot setting (–). Also have not yet disabled the standby mode which is easy to do in the future.
The Mara X was delivered in a large box by UPS and was clearly labeled so that it was given priority handling. Upon opening, the Mara X was very well protected, and had no issues unpacking everything. It is helpful at one point to have another person help get the unit out of the box as you need to lift the packing from either end.
Overall, extremely happy with this unit and hope it gives me as many years of service as the Rancilio. Highly recommended!

We have been using MaraX for little over three weeks now and cannot be more happy about our purchase. Before we made the purchase, we had couple of questions and Jim has provided answers to all of them and advised us on what machine to purchase and such. Happy with 1st line and MaraX.
Todd Prekaski –
I bought my Mara X last August. I’ve been extremely happy with it. Compared to my old Via Venizia I bought 12 years ago, the consistency of shots I get out of the Mara X is amazing. I’m fortunate enough to live around some really high end cafes and my shots are equally as creamy, syrupy, and sweet, etc… I’m mostly an Americano and espresso person, so I haven’t steamed much milk through it, though. But the espresso is so good. The machine is very forgiving and simple to use. What’s nice is that for a home use, it doesn’t take up a lot of counter space, and it heats up quickly, though I’ve since put the machine on an automatic timer that has a surge protector plugged into it, because who doesn’t want to pull that first shot 3 minutes after waking up?
As a side note, one reason I went with Mara X was the simplicity of the internals and repairability. I recently moved into a new house and had an issue with surging power (I didn’t read the part of the website where espresso machines should be hooked up to surge protectors), and my heating element was fried. I worked with Jim at 1st line, we easily diagnosed it over the phone, and a new part was quickly sent. It took me 10 minutes to swap out the heating element with some common tools. Great customer service.
I look forward to many caffeine stimulated years with this machine.
Patrick (verified owner) –
The Mara X is revolutionary. Others have said it first and I’ll repeat it: This is the way HX machines will go (or must go) in the future! Instead of being optimized for steam temperature, the temperature of the X is optimized for pulling shots. And it works in practice! I’ve had this machine for almost nine months and it works for me to have the temperature running this way. The boiler pressure almost never goes below 0.6bar and even that is sufficient to steam milk …but usually after pulling a shot it’s more like 1.0bar. If more steam is desired, I simply look at the gauge before grinding my beans. If the boiler pressure is a bit low I simply give it a very brief flush and that will turn on the boiler heater so that by the time I’ve pulled my shot the pressure will be somewhere above 1bar. But even if I forget to do this, there’s always enough steam to steam milk. Having the grouphead always at the right temperature makes a huge difference in the quality of the drink in the cup day-after-day! As a recent reviewer said: “the consistency of shots I get out of the Mara X is amazing”.
This machine was clearly designed and built by engineers who thought carefully about it. There are many details that are clearly well thought-out. I highly recommend this machine.
logjames (verified owner) –
I’ve had this machine now for more than a month and it has been outstanding. I never realized how much work when into making a cappuccino with my former single boiler machine, until I used this one. With it’s ability to brew and steam simultaneously, there is no waiting for the boiler temp to switch between brew and steam temp…it’s all less complicated and the morning routine has become almost rewarding rather than a chore. I use a Wemo smart switch with the MaraX to power on the machine about 15 before my alarm goes off. By the time I am up and about, it’s ready to brew the first coffee of the morning.
About 1st-Line Equipment, I have placed 3 orders with them starting with this Lelit MaraX and in all cases, they have performed as expected. I had purchased the Lelit MaraX during a pre-order, because supplies have been constrained due to it’s popularity and presumably because of impacts to the supply chain due to COVID. I inquired about the status of my order as the expected delivery date was approaching and they responded within an hour indicating that their shipment should be arriving that week. By the end of the week, I had received a shipping notification that it was on it’s way to me. This is how a business that is serious about customer service responds to customer inquiries. In addition, they provide a wealth of informative videos and notes on their site about setup, use of the products they sell, and ways to protect your investment. As a consumer, this demonstrates to me that they use and are familiar with the products that they sell and can offer meaningful and helpful support. This is not a business just looking to move product, they feel passionately about the products they sell and it shows. Without hesitation, I would recommend 1st-line to friends and family.
Mike Bordelon (verified owner) –
Buy the Mara x if you want to make great espresso with little fuss and don’t want to break the bank. It automatically controls the flow for you with a slow ramp-up and I’ve found it difficult to make a bad shot. And, I’ve had plenty of absolutely great shots over the last few months I’ve owned the machine. Additionally, if you have any issues with the machine, just call or email 1st line and they’ll help you out. I had what I “thought” was an issue, it was not, but Jim promptly called me back.
When the unit arrive it was packaged extremely well as Lelit has designed the packaging themselves and it seems they’ve figured it out.

First, I want to thank 1st Line for their amazing customer service thus far and the promptness of the shipping…This Mara X is an amazing machine! I had bought the Ascaso PID Dream elsewhere about 5-6 months ago. But since then I’ve been really wanting this Mara X initially because I wanted to be able to pull a shot and steam at the same time, but I don’t really do that. (However, I don’t have to sit and wait 90 seconds for the boiler to heat up after a shot like I did on the Ascaso so that’s a huge win.) I pulled the trigger and got it and WOW…..I LOVE THIS MACHINE! Everything about it is is better. Yes, it takes longer to initially heat up but so worth the wait. The shot comes out amazingly better, the steaming function is 100% better, and the cup warming tray actually really works. With the Ascaso, it was always noisy when I steamed my milk and it was never consistent, and it seemed like the steam coming from only one hole created bursts which was not good. My Mara (I’ve named her Mara..lol) is consistent every time and very quiet steaming with perfect microfoam, and the pour turns out better too because the shot is so much better! Just going to say, the Ascaso was my first prosumer machine and it was okay but I really want to perfect my skills as this is now my hobby. So if you don’t want to spend big buck$$$ for a dual boiler, this Mara X is the ticket…100% pleased.
Marisa G –
So, my home espresso machine experience is limited–before this I’d only pulled shots on a Gaggia Classic. I was advised by a barista friend to look into a heat exchange machine since I really only drink milk based coffee drinks and wasn’t wowed by the Gaggia’s steaming wand, even upon upgrade.
Holy cannolis! This is the best steaming experience I have ever had. Super easy to use, super easy to clean, and it pulls a great shot. I love making coffee in the morning, it’s a totally joyful experience.
There I think are only a few very minor, cosmetic complaints about the machine. The second wand for boiling water is kinda a mess. It doesn’t tuck away well and isn’t really that useful, even for americanos due to the way it spits steam like crazy. Not a huge negative other than it’s not necessary. The machine comes with several stickers on the stainless steal. Be SUPER careful when removing these stickers are scratching the stainless steel is really, really easy and needless to say, even with lots of polish, my group head still looks like a scratched up mess. Finally, it does take a long while to heat up, a full 15 minutes every morning. I have gotten into the habit of turning it on before I walk the dog, but you may want to invest in a little outlet timer to turn the machine on in the morning, otherwise you’ll need to change up your morning routine.
I love it. I am really new to pulling espresso at home and I would suggest it to anyone who just wants a solid cappuccino every day!
